App & Browser Control Missing in Windows Security in Windows 11

In this article, you will see how to quickly fix the App & browser control missing in Windows Security in Windows 11.

Problem: Many users reported that the App & browser control is missing in the Windows Security.

Cause: This issue started after updating the build 22000 and later builds.

Solution: From now on, you can access App & browser control using Windows Search. Enter App & Browser on Windows Search, then click on Open; after that, you will be able to access it and turn on the Reputation-based protection.

An alternative way is to open the command prompt and run the following command: %windir%\explorer.exe windowsdefender://appbrowser.

If you get an error log or see the message “standard hardware security not supported” on Windows Security when trying to open App & Browser, try the following solutions.

Install the Previous Version of Windows Security

The logic is that since the newest version of Windows Security is not working correctly, we will install the previous version as a workaround.

To install the previous version of Windows Security, run the file Microsoft.SecHealthUI_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx, this file is located on C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth\1.0.2109.27002-0.

Delete the folder 1.0.2109.27002-0 located on C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth

Instead of reinstalling Windows Security, as explained below, you can fix this issue by completely deleting the 1.0.2109.27002-0 folder. Since you might need special permission to delete this folder, you will need a third-party app to unlock it, as shown below:

  1. Download IObit Unlocker and install it on your PC.
  2. Now navigate to the following path on File Explorer:
    C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth\
  3. Now right-click on the folder 1.0.2109.27002-0 and click on IObit Unlocker:

(On Windows 11, you need to click on Show more option > IObit Unlocker)
  4. In the IObit Unlocker window, click on the dropdown arrow next to the Unlock button, then select Unlock & Delete:

Reset the Windows Security app

You can reset the Windows Security either via Windows PowerShell by following the steps below:

  1. Enter Windows PowerShell on Windows Search and select Run as Administrator:
  2. Click Yes to allow this app to make changes to your device.
  3. On Windows PowerShell, run the command below and press Enter:
    Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.Windows.SecHealthUI* | Reset-AppxPackage:

Conclusion

After updating from the Windows update build 22000, the App & Browser Control is missing from Windows Security, but you can still access it by entering App & Browser Control on Windows Search.

If you see an error message when trying to open the App & Browser Control, try to run Microsoft.SecHealthUI_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx located on C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth\.

Or try to reset the Microsoft Security app by running the command Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.Windows.SecHealthUI* | Reset-AppxPackage on Windows PowerShell as administrator.
