Problem: The pop-up with the error message “C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\Microsoft.YourPhone(…) \PhoneExperienceHost.exe” appears randomly on your screen.
Cause: This pop-up is related to the Phone Link app, a Windows app that links your operating system with your Android phone, allowing you to access photos, receive notifications, etc.
(If you use a previous version of Windows 10/11, this app is named Your Phone instead of Phone Link)
This error message happens because the Phone Link app is encountering some errors while trying to run in the background.
To stop this error message from popping up, you need to disable the Phone Link/Your Phone app from running in the background by toggling Let this app run in background to Never under Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
How to Fix Microsoft.YourPhone Error by disabling Phone Link/Your Phone
Here is how to disable Phone Link step-by-step:
- Enter Settings on Windows Search and click on App:
- On the Settings window, click on Apps:
- Next, click on Installed Apps:
(If you are using an older version of Windows, you might need to click on Apps & Features instead.) - On Installed Apps, browse down to Phone Link (or Your Phone if you use previous versions of Windows 10/11), and click on the three dots next to it:
- Then under Background app permissions, toggle Let this app run in the background to Never:
This will prevent the Phone Link app from running in the background, and the error message will no longer appear.
If you never use the Phone Link, go a step further and remove the Phone Link app from your PC, as explained in this article.
Conclusion
If you see any error message related to C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\Microsoft.YourPhone(…) \PhoneExperienceHost.exe is because the Phone Link (or Your Phone) app is running in the background and has encountered some error.
To prevent the Phone Link app from running in the background, turn it off on Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, then click on the three dots next to Phone Link > Advanced Options and toggle to Let this app run in background to Never.
